Food is our most basic need. Yet often, we expect those who are hungry to pull themselves up, dust themselves off, go to work, go stand in line to fill out paperwork, parent their children, clean up their yard, contribute to the world around them…and then we will feed them. If, even for a few moments, we can provide high quality, nutritious meals in a safe place, a place where individuals and families can regroup, refocus and refresh their energies, we can impact their overall well-being and change their lives. What if we feed people in an atmosphere of dignity and respect?
Nourish KC does just this in our Dining with Dignity model. This last year at NourishKC we have refocused our work to the core of our outreach in the Kansas City region: feeding people. For over 35 years the Kansas City Community Kitchen (KCCK) has provided nutritious food for any who would come. In the first six months of 2019, we have already provided over 44,000 meals. We accomplish this through the generosity of churches, individuals, corporate sponsorship and grants.
This is where we need you! Your support allows us to keep our promise: to keep plates full of wholesome food and our neighbors engaged in a safe, supportive network of volunteers, social service providers, and community partners throughout the Greater Kansas City area.
Currently, our annual budget to operate the kitchen is $600,000 It is our hope as we enter 2020 to restart the Culinary Cornerstone training program, training the jobless for work in the restaurant and food services sector. This is a top goal and will require additional funding. Please consider a gift to support our work. Gifts of any size add up to make a difference in our shared work of feeding the hungry.
