The Diocese of West Missouri’s 47 churches and members are located in the urban areas of Springfield, Joplin, St. Joseph, and the Kansas City metro area, as well as many small towns and rural areas across the western half of the state. Episcopal Church ministries within the diocese include health care institutions, a retirement community, and a variety of social services. In our diocese, The Episcopal Church has a distinctively midwestern flavor. Many historic church buildings dating from the late 19th century are still in use with many of their original furnishings. Our churches vary in their style of worship from Anglo-Catholic liturgy to informal spoken services with praise bands. What they have in common is a commitment to the gospel message and engagement with their local communities. As a diocese, we find ourselves at an exciting moment of growth and change. We look forward to welcoming a new Diocesan Missioner for Youth Ministry to grow with us!
We are seeking a Youth Missioner for The Diocese of West Missouri who will create a welcoming environment for 6th to 12th grade students and is responsible for equipping and empowering them to find their place in the life of the Church. While the ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter in their daily work, this role includes collaboration with the Youth Ministry Commission to set and strive toward the vision for youth ministry across the diocese, including the Commission’s networking to recruit potential leaders. The Missioner will budget for, plan, and coordinate programs, events, fellowship, retreats, and outreach. Undergirding the work of this position is the primary responsibility to foster connections between local congregations with one another and with the diocesan youth ministry, for which regular and timely communication with youth, parents/guardians, volunteers, and churches is critical. This position is full-time and assumes a supervisory capacity over volunteers of diocesan youth ministry. This position reports to the Bishop of West Missouri and requires flexible working hours, including frequent evenings and weekends, as well as frequent travel throughout the diocese and occasional travel beyond the diocese.
