While most of us are getting ready for happy family reunions during the holidays, and clergy and liturgical ministers are preparing for joyous services, we may forget that Christmas can be a time of great sadness for many. A Blue Christmas service is a time when we can, with others, acknowledge the sadness we may feel at Christmas time. For many who have lost a loved one, this is a time of sharp loneliness. For others, who have lost a relationship, health, a job, or had a financial setback it may be a time of pain, confusion, or fear.
Below are details of Blue Christmas services being held by Episcopal Churches in Joplin, Kansas City, Liberty, Ozark, Springfield, and Sedalia.

Light in the Darkness: A Service of Remembrance and Hope. This worship service gives space for the heaviness of our lives that may come from daily stress and worry, grief or loss, memories of loved ones who we see no longer or for any other reason at all. The weight of these is present in our lives even as the world gleams with the joy and light of the season. Join us as we light candles, sing, and pray as we cast our worries, pain, and grief onto God, an ever-present source of comfort and peace.
