NICC has served 569 families so far this year, giving out 858 packages of diapers and clothing 681 children.
The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Kansas City, Missouri held a community picnic for constituents of their ministry to Northland Infant Clothing Center (NICC) on Wednesday, July 27. Together with Redeemer’s Family Life Center ministry, volunteers helped young working and single parents with free diapers and clothing, and shared community time over hot dogs, burgers and pot luck offerings. NICC has served 569 families so far this year, giving out 858 packages of diapers and clothing 681 children.
NICC and Family Life Center Volunteers were excited about this picnic. NICC director Louise Thurlow said that it not only provided the opportunity for volunteers and family constituents to spend more time together, but it also provided a sense of community between families served. “Single parenting, and working multiple jobs to make ends meet can leave our parents somewhat isolated. This gives them a chance to bond with others in similar circumstances. It’s also just our way of continuing to honor them as fellow children of God.”
