Dear friends in Christ,

I write to you today to update you on an on-going, public discussion that stemmed from a letter from the President of the House of Deputies on August 30. President Julia Ayala Harris alerted the House of Deputies about an inappropriate encounter she had with a then-unnamed bishop. That bishop has since been named and, in fact, was her now-retired bishop of Oklahoma, the Rt. Rev. Ed Konieczny.

There have been many people weighing in on this situation since the letter was sent. The Presiding Bishop has written about this, including calling for a review of the Title IV process. Most recently, Bishop Ed has responded with his own letter.

I have not weighed in on any of this formally because I don’t know where this is going to go. I want to wait until after the House of Bishops meeting, which is scheduled for Sept. 19-22, when I will see and learn more.
