My brothers and sisters, my siblings in Christ,
It has been painful to see the horrific suffering in Israel and Gaza this week that has happened as a result of the heinous terrorist attacks and the violence in response. The Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem, along with all of the Patriarchs and Leaders of Churches in the Holy Land, have called for a day of prayer and fasting in response to this violence. I join in their call and ask that all in the Diocese of West Missouri pray and fast for peace on Tuesday, October 17. In the words of Archbishop Hosam-
“To this end, we pray without ceasing for justice, reconciliation, peace, and an end to hatred and war. We also pray for God to change the hearts of all leaders and decision-makers in our countries and around the world. For we are in dire need of hearts that love, show mercy, and are willing to live in unity with others-hearts that respect human dignity and choose life rather than death.”
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
