The Rev. Melissa Roberts George has accepted a call to be the new assistant rector for Hospitality, Engagement, and Parish Care at St. Andrew’s, Kansas City. Mother Melissa will work closely with the Rev. John Spicer, Rector of St. Andrew’s, the Venerable Bruce Bower, Archdeacon of the Diocese, and the Rev. Anne Hutcherson, Associate Rector, to assist in St. Andrew’s worship life, pastoral care, and Christian formation.
The Rev. Melissa coordinates ministry with the Hospitality Commission that orchestrates all parish events, coffee hour, and receptions, the Engagement Commission that inspires prospective, new, and current members to thrive in parish life, and the Parish Care Commission that provides prayer, companionship, and resources to parishioners in times of transition. The Rev. Melissa also joins in St. Andrew’s rotation for leading the 8-1-8 prayers, an intentional pause with scripture and liturgy daily at 8 a.m., 1 p.m., and 8 p.m. via the church’s Facebook page.
Mother Melissa is a board-certified health care chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. She and her husband Mark come from St. Philip’s, Joplin, where the Rev. Melissa served with the Rev. Frank Sierra during her transitional diaconate. Bishop Marty ordained her to the priesthood on June 27, 2020 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kansas City.
