Dear friends in Christ,
I bring you warm Christmas greetings from your diocesan staff – it is our joy to be in partnership with you all! It is also a great joy for me to be among you as your bishop provisional! I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the very warm welcome you have already given me and my husband Steve – it is a blessing every time I visit one of the churches or meet with people at our diocesan office. “Welcome Bishop Bruce,” or “Welcome Bishop Diane,” have been greetings that have warmed my heart and made both Steve and I feel a part of you all.
I am looking forward to more of your welcomes as I continue my Sunday visitations and meetings in the coming year.
It is appropriate that the welcomes have come at this holy time of year. While Advent is the season of expectation, Christmas is the season of welcome. As we again welcome the Christ Child into our hearts, we also welcome friends and family into our homes. There is love, light, and joy in these welcomes. The love that came down at Christmas fills us – and we, in turn, are called to share this love with others.
Thank you all for sharing that love with all whom God brings to your doors, with each other, and with me.
May the joy, peace, love and wonder of this Christmas be welcomed in your hearts and home.
