The Rev. Steven King is officially welcomed as the new rector of St. Paul’s, Kansas City

Gary Allman Three-minute read.   Resources

The Rev. Steven King joined St. Paul’s in September 2021, when COVID-19 was limiting in-person services and the diocese was temporarily without a bishop diocesan. At that time, Fr. Steven and the people of St. Paul’s decided to postpone his official installation as rector until it was safe to celebrate in person and the diocese had a bishop to lead the service.

On Saturday April 23, 2022, with Bishop Bruce as the celebrant, Fr. Steven was officially welcomed as the new rector. The service – ‘The Renewal of Ministry with the Welcoming of a New Rector’ included the presentation of symbols of the numerous ministries of St. Paul’s. Enjoy the pictures below, and you can watch a recording of the service here.

Bishop Sparks, bishop of Northern Indiana, took time out from walking the 660-mile ‘Trail of Death’ marking the Potawatomi’s forced march to attend. Read about Bishop Sparks’ pilgrimage. Bishop Sparks’ wife previously attended St. Paul’s. Bishop Loya, bishop of Minnesota was invited to attend and deliver the sermon, by Fr. Steven. Fr. Steven first met Bishop Loya when he served in Campus Ministry for the Diocese of Kansas, and they served together on the staff at Trinity Cathedral in Omaha from 2017-2022.
