The righteous know the needs of their animals – Proverbs 12:10

Every year at MissionPalooza we take a small group of teens and adults to volunteer at various pet shelters in the Kansas City area. Last year we spent time at both Unleashed Pet Rescue and Midwest Animal Resq. While at these shelters we spend time cleaning cages, engaging with the animals through playing and walks, and one of the biggest projects, helping with the laundry. Pet shelters go through an enormous amount of washing. We also take time to bake dog treats and make blankets. The dog treats are super easy to make, and most of the ingredients can be found in your pantry.

In addition to making dog treats to donate this year, we are also making dog toys from old t-shirts. Below you will find videos with instructions on both. Thank you to Alexandra Connors, Youth Ministry at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral for the videos. The ingredient list and recipe for the treats can be found in the description of the video. Once you have made your treats and they have cooled, place them in a baggie and either put them in the freezer or fridge until it’s time to drop them off. If you have dogs of your own, I encourage you to make a second batch just for them. My three love them.

Join me in the WEMO Youth Community Zoom Room, link at www.WEMOYouth.com, every day this week at 9:30 am and 4 pm to check-in and chat about our experiences.
